Call for Applications: Energy Efficiency Innovation Challenge 2025

The Ministry of Energy, in partnership with the European Union, the Embassy of Ireland, and UNDP, is implementing the Energy Efficiency Action Plan (EEAP) to support Tanzania’s shift toward a more sustainable and energy-efficient economy. As part of its awareness and innovation efforts, the first Energy Efficiency Innovation Challenge was successfully launched in 2024. It aimed to identify and support local innovations addressing key energy efficiency issues. Several of these solutions are now under development, receiving both grant funding and technical support.

Building on this momentum, the 2025 edition of the Energy Efficiency Innovation Challenge will focus on three priority areas:

  • Energy efficiency in buildings,
  • Efficient electronic appliances,
  • Behavioural change to encourage energy-saving habits.

The Challenge is designed to raise public awareness, promote practical and innovative energy-saving solutions, and support the transition of Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) into market-ready products and services. The goal is to inspire local innovation that rethinks how we live, work, and use energy in smarter, more efficient ways. Tanzanian innovators are invited to apply for seed funding of up to 25,000,000 TZS to support creative solutions with strong potential for:

  • Significant energy savings
  • Scalable impact
  • Job creation.
